Here’s Another Way To Torture Young Girls …

… Weigh them in public - school no less! I cringed when I read the Reuters’ article Obesity screening for schoolchildren questioned. In the UK schools are monitoring the weight of schoolchildren aged 4-5 years and 10-11 years old. This is done in the name of keeping "track of the nation’s obesity problem".
This article struck a cord because I remember having to stand in line (in alphabetical order) to be weighed when I was in 5th grade. My maiden name was MacKinnon so the M’s allowed me to be tortured by having to wait my turn yet there were enough people behind me to see my weight. Ugh it was awful. I’m probably aging myself because I don’t think they do this anymore in schools here in New Jersey but I’m not positive.
There is nothing more stigmatizing and humiliating for a young girl to have to be weighed in public in front of her peers.
