I didn’t have the best week last week with ‘Flying’. I became consumed with reading my books that I got for my birthday (diet and cookbooks). I wasn’t feeling my best either - very tired. Anyway, husband and daughter were off yesterday for MLK so today actually feels like a Monday.
I have done well with shining my sink. I’ve done it every single day this month!
According to the flylady’s babysteps we are now suppose to start using our control journals. I have one but it has to be updated. I also don’t like the binder — a bit bulky. I will try to update that today.
I’ve added a new goal of decluttering for 15 minutes a day but I’m not going to follow the zones yet. My basement is a wreck and I also work down there so it’s depressing. 15 minutes a day until it is done .. that might be December 2010.

Yesterday didn’t go all that well. I did manage to shine my sink but I didn’t do much else. I was just in a funky fog yesterday and I’m not sure why. I didn’t do my assigned 15 minutes of holiday cleanup but I will get back on that today. I goofed off with Twitter all day yesterday and that means I had to actually work longer so I was running late. Today’s baby step is Hot Spots. These are areas of your house where clutter seems to accumulate. “CLUTTER ATTRACTS CLUTTER”. I have many hot spots and my kids have theirs as well. They throw all of their stuff by the front door and it doesn’t matter if their stuff is on the steps they will walk over it as opposed to bringing it up to their rooms.
My worst hot spots are my dining room table and the buffet in the dining room. Third place winner is the coffee table in the dining room. 4th place is the entertainment center. I will focus on those 4 areas today.
Well I’ve done well with keeping my sink shining and doing the dishes every nite. I signed up for FlyLady newsletter which I read first thing this morning. Todays ‘Flight Plan’ is to spend 15 minutes putting Christmas decorations away. That sounds good to me. I’ll do that after work.
Today’s babystep is stupid. Put post-it notes over your bathroom sink (to get dressed down to your shoes) and one over your kitchen sink (to keep it clean). I feel a bit stupid doing that .. but I guess I’ll try the kitchen sink one.
The habit I would like to start today is emptying the dishwasher first thing in the morning. It sucks when the dishes are still in there from the previous night when I go to start dinner the following night.
Shine sink
Empty dishwasher in the morning

So I just signed up for FlyLady’s newsletter on bigtent and there is some interesting info. The goal of January is to clean up the dishes after dinner EVERY. SINGLE. NIGHT. for the month of January. This allows for a clean sink when you wake up.
I should add in there .. empty the dishwasher first thing in the morning but let’s start with shining sink every nite. Good place to start.

Well yesterday’s assignment is one that I have never followed using the FlyLady system — get dressed first thing in the morning down to your shoes. I work from home and workout in the morning so that is the extent of my getting dressed for the day. Shower at 2p.
Today’s assignment:
Get dressed up to shoes — no
Keep shining your sink — ok
Sign up for newsletter/ emails. These can be a pita because I’ve tried it before and you are inundated with the same type of emails but what the hell — I’ll try it again. The “Daily Flight Plan” is in these emails so I think I need a flight plan in order to fly.
I have done well this weekend with cleaning the kitchen after dinner. I did spend yesterday doing a light cleaning (sweep, vacuum, mop, get rid of Christmas clutter) but my tree is still up — probably until next weekend. We put it up so late I still want to have it for awhile.

Wow it’s been forever since I’ve posted on this blog. In my attempt to get organized I plan on documenting my transition (New Years Resolution of course) from CHAOS to organization. My house is a mess. Thank God for FlyLady! I’ve tried this system throughout the years but I’ve lost my way so I am starting back at square one with the FlyLady Baby Steps.
Today — 1/1/2010 — first day of the new decade — is Day 1. Shining my sink. It surely needs it after all of the holiday cooking.
What I like about FlyLady is that you aren’t expected (or encouraged) to start off with too much. Baby steps create habits and habits create simplicity. This year is all about taking it a bit easier on myself. Be a bit kinder to myself and others. Be tolerant. Don’t expect perfection. Create habits through small changes.
It hurts so bad growing out this damn pixie cut. Big chop was last August. I am now in that horrible phase of having so many different layers between ears and chin. Still too short to put up so I look like a mental patient that has escaped. It’s getting awfully close to a Carol Brady / mullet look. Am debating about trimming the bottom just a little by my neck. Oh it’s so painful growing out a pixie
Oh God .. is this where I’m headed??????

If you haven’t seen The Flight of the Conchords on HBO you are missing out. Funniest show I’ve seen in a long time. Their 2nd season started about a month ago but I watch the episodes on-demand because Sunday at 10pm is just too late for me!
